The “Naked” Truth about Nyotaimori

You’ll not only get a mouthful, but an eyeful.

Throughout society, we have all come to love and appreciate the artful taste and presentation that sushi has to offer. I mean, just saying the words “we’re going out for sushi” sounds chic. But wait. How about “We’re going to have body sushi”? Chic and self-explanatory. As you may know, our society will stop at nothing to keep us entertained, and the latest twist on eating sushi is one that will have you doing a double take.

With Nyotaimori, you’ll not only get a mouthful when eating, but you’ll also get an eyeful. Nyotaimori is a Japanese practice of serving sashimi or sushi from a naked body of a woman. In fact, the practice of nyotaimori is said to have its origins in the samurai period in Japan, often taking place in a geisha house as a celebration after a victorious battle. Thought your food had enough flavor before? Guess again. This artful spin on the world of raw fish is bound to impress! (perhaps not your girlfriend, but perhaps an out-of-town Japanese business partner?)

Available worldwide, except in China (In 2005, China has outlawed nyotaimori due to public health reasons and imposed moral censorship issues.) Nyotaimori restaurants and events are popping up all over the world. It’s one of the newest trends to be seen in venues of New York City, Vancouver, Japan of course, and even Russia. For example, “The Nyotaimori Experience” created by Chef Mark, has made a solid business out of this practice in the US. According to the company’s website, you can hire their services for a birthday, tradeshow, or even a charity event! To date the company has provided over 125 body sushi events in 14 different states and is primarily an off-premise service, meaning “we come to you”. As it currently stands today, notable names such as HBO, Playboy, and Buzzfeed have used Nyotaimori Experience’s service. Something to perhaps put on my unique dining list

Ps- For all you ladies who think less of this practice or this article, I have good news; you can also have your sushi off of a male model alternatively. You’re welcome.
