Mercedes has finally unveiled their long-awaited Mercedes – AMG One hypercar. It is a collaboration between Mercedes and the Petronas Motorsport team and will bring Formula 1 technology to the streets. The powertrain is a twin-turbocharged 1.6l, V6 combustion engine with four independent electric motors (one for each wheel) that will generate over 1,000 hp and result in a top speed of 217 mph. Combined with a “Race Start” function mode, the Mercedes – AMG One will be able to go from 0 to 124 mph in less than six seconds.
Everything about this car is geared to performance generation. The interior is highly minimalistic and includes lightweight F1-style seats and a F1-inspired steering wheel with integrated controls. Similar to its F1 counterpart, the body of the “One” will be made entirely out of carbon fiber which results in a weight of 1,695 kg. Mercedes also stated that only 275 units of the car will be made to maintain its exclusivity. The price tag for the car is expected to be in the range of $2.75 million.
The worst news for Mercedes fans and motorsport enthusiasts in the US is that the car will not be available in the US market. Mercedes said that in order to meet US road standards and regulations it would have to made significant compromises and alterations to its F1 powertrain that would have a negative impact on performance and drivability of the car – something the German car manufacturer wasn’t willing to do. Of course, there is still the possibility that we could see one here under the “Show and Display” law. But if you are lucky enough to afford this car, why not by an Italian villa, Swiss mansion or French chateau with it and enjoy it on the streets of Europe?
