After honing German craftsmanship for over a century, Rimowa takes its expert techniques to the metaverse with RTFKT in a new collection that features 888 NFTs to be forged into 888 limited-edition physical suitcases — a nod to the number symbolizing luck in the crypto community. The release also includes 2222 RTFKT x RIMOWA WorkerBots for Web3 enthusiasts.
For this collaboration, which launched on October 27th, RTFKT and Rimowa created an interactive campaign where the crypto community was invited to solve challenges together, to uncover a hacked Rimowa x RTFKT Space Station, which they needed to reactivate in order to mint their limited edition NFTs. The challenge was followed by an exclusive digital event, where NFT holders forged their asset to redeem a physical version of the suitcase.
During the forging event, a slew of other assets created by Rimowa and RTFKT, including four different Avatar Wearables, were revealed. Alongside the digital and physical iterations of the suitcase, the community also had the chance to purchase one of the Rimowa x RTFKT WorkerBots. The NFT can be traded at any time on secondary marketplaces like OpenSea; however, after the forging event, the original minted NFT will not carry any planned future utility. During forging, NFT holders were asked to burn their NFT’s in exchange for a new Rimowa x RTFKT NFT that represent access to the physical item.
The physical Rimowa x RTFKT suitcase is made from high-end anodized aluminum and features the Special Limited Edition “Wandersmith” Anti-FUD pattern print and was priced at 2 Ethereum. It sold out on the day of the release so if you would like to get your special suitcase, you have to buy it on a secondary marketplace. The WorkerBot – priced at just 0.07 Ethereum – is also sold out. The NFT suitcase is the latest special edition Rimowa case. Earlier this year, the brand partnered with Porsche and just earlier last month it tapped LeBron James to help design a special wine bottle case.
