Philipp Plein has made headlines once again. The German designer hosted celebrities, socialites and his VIP clients at his mansion in Cannes, South France – La Jungle Du Roi – for a truly special fashion event: the unveiling of his latest resort collection. When guests, including Maye Musk, Foodgod Jonathan Cheban and Anna Ermakova, arrived at his mansion, it was transformed into a giant outdoor circus. Floating giraffe sculptures in the swimming pool, sexy models dressed as marionettes serving champagne, colorful glitter everywhere, performers with top hats doing card tricks – La Jungle Du Roi was transformed into the Plein Circus. And Plein was the ringmaster. Dressed in a black tuxedo and carrying his 1-year-old son Rocky, Plein unveiled the collection.
The new iconic theme, “Circus,” glorifies the beautiful and unique color code with a positive, bright color injection. Opulence and sensual richness of details construct each piece, as each model embodies characters who create a visually engulfing experience reinterpreted by Philipp Plein, through a luxurious and maximalist lens. The collection perpetuates the Philipp Plein house’s trademark aesthetic and style codes while taking glamour and luxury to new heights, carefully stoned and jeweled, finding strength in opulence and each delicate touch.
While the fashion show had many elements of the successful Philipp Plein fashion shows we have seen in the past, there were also a number of elements that were different and that made it even more exciting. First, was of course the venue. No big entertainment venue in Milan or New York but at his Cannes home in a much more intimate setting. Second, it was shorter than in the past. In total, 15 looks were presented. That didn’t take away anything from the show though as each of the looks was truly unique on its own and attendees could therefore devote as much attention to each look as it deserved. Third, while in the past, crystals, chains, studs and metallic colors were memorable elements of the collection, this time guests will remember summery colors and floral patterns. It was a new side of Plein’s fashion toolbox and we are loving it. A special memory for Plein will surely be the finale of the show as he carried baby Rocky over the catwalk – his first ever fashion show.
A Philipp Plein fashion show wouldn’t be the same without a surprise music act. After the show, guests enjoyed a private concert by Rick Ross who flew in from Miami just to be part of the day. Thereafter, everyone enjoyed a glass (or two) of champagne, the views from his terrace overlooking the Bay of Cannes, mixing and mingling with fellow Plein enthusiasts or just dancing the night away.
