Since its announcement, Apple fans have been raving about the release of the iPhone 8. However, the world was shocked when Apple CEO Tim Cook announced the iPhone X on September 12th, making the 8 almost unnoticed. The iPhone X (pronounced “ten”) celebrates iPhone’s 10th year anniversary. One of the most shocking aspects of the newest iPhone is the thousand-dollar price point. Even the most loyal Apple users asks, “Is it worth it?”

The aesthetics alone has the world raving about the new phone. Apple states:
“Developing the form and the display together defines a whole new integration, making a boundary between the device and the screen hard to discern. There is no home button. A single swipe takes you to the home screen. A more responsive touch system means the gestures in the IOS 11 are more fluid. The polished, stainless steel band reinforces the water-resistant in the all-glass design.”
It also features the most durable glass in a smart phone. Also, for the first time, the iPhone X enables wireless charging.
The iPhone camera is constantly gaining better quality through each generation. It has even been proved comparable to some of the most advanced studio cameras. However, the the iPhone X allows the user to define the quality of light. This will create that much-aspired contoured look to the face as well as studio-quality lighting.
Perhaps the most discussed iPhone X feature is the depth-sensing technology that allows the user to unlock the phone with just a glance. This unique “Face ID” maps the geometry of the user’s face through over 30,000 dots. “The data is then analyzed by the neural engine through the A11 bionic chip, the first of its kind.” Many consumers ask, “How will the phone identify my face if the lights are off?” Well, this advanced face-recognition technology can even be utilized in the dark. There’s also the perceived issue of if the face features grow and change, will it cause the iPhone to no longer read the Face ID. However, the technology is so advanced, “it will adapt to the user’s physical change”. “This makes your face your secure password.”
Another fun feature that will be performed by the Face ID which will bring Emojis to life. This is called the “Animoji”, or Animated Emojis and is controlled by the face by mapping over 50 facial muscles in realtime.
But is it actually worth the grand? Reports show that it the total cost of labor and material is $412.75. That’s less than half of the retail price and allows Apple 60% profit.
Essentially, the consumer is paying for the newest, most advanced materials such as the A11 bionic chip, the Qualcomm modem, and the 3D Face ID sensor. However, the main selling point is the aesthetics and status symbol. It’s the sleekest, sexiest designed phone on the market. Think about it, when the first iPhone was released 10 years ago, there were many individuals who were uninterested in the touch screen. Now, nearly every phone user owns a touch screen phone, iPhone or not. The truth of the matter is, many consumers are eventually going to give in to the hot, sexy look. Therefore, the iPhone X’s beauty sales itself, regardless of the price point.
