It’s official- All things space-themed and shiny are back!
by Sophia Liao
We all saw it happen with Chanel’s Fall 2017 Paris show and Fall 2017 Couture show. For the first show, the set transformed into a space station and for the latter, a scale-sized replica of the Eiffel Tower loomed in the airy Grand Palais. The spaceship was an appropriate indication of transcendental human endeavors, much like Lagerfeld’s work for the House of Chanel, and, despite being an unlit structure of metal bones, the scale-sized Eiffel Tower evoked the romantic feeling of an atmospheric night under the illuminated real one. On the streets, you can show off your zodiac sign with Gucci’s cosmos motifs-embellished handbag for personalized flair or transform into a goddess-of-the-heavens in one of Dior’s couture ball gowns. Have your pick of lightweight fabrics, sheer colors and intricate embroidery. Humanity’s fixation with studying the vaulted skies and our universe and turning to them for artistic inspiration is as old as time but with these pieces, you can add a modern twist that has Piccioli’s, Chiuri’s and perhaps even Galileo’s stamps of approval.
