K-Beauty is known for many things; providing affordable and innovative ingredients in their products, having cute packaging; however, they are not known for having the most inclusive of foundation ranges. There are a few brands that are notable exceptions in this regard, here are a few of them:
VDL
VDL, which stands for Vivid Dreams come to Life, is considered of the more high-end cosmetic brands in South Korea, kind of like a more toned-down version of M.A.C. VDL is known for products such as the Lumilayer Primer, praised for the glow it gives to the skin as a makeup base. VDL has a foundation in their lineup, the VDL Perfect-Lasting Foundation, that comes in twelve shades, ranging from light to deep skin tones. While twelve is a relatively low number, especially in consideration of Fenty’s fifty foundation shade range, the majority of Korean foundations come in 3-5, if that, skin tones, majority of which are for light skin tones. The foundation can be found on the VDL website, VDLUS.com, or on the Ulta website, and retails for $35 USD.
Innisfree
Innisfree is one of the more notable exceptions in regards to K-Beauty makeup ranges. Innisfree have two cushion foundations, available in a matte and dewy version, which have fourteen shades in the range. Innisfree’s liquid foundation, the Velvet cover foundation, comes in 24 shades and can be found in Innisfree retail stores in the United States, and via the Innisfree website, retails for $20 USD.
Dibawsette
A special exception to the list is this Black-owned brand. Inspired by Korean cushion foundations, Dibawsette offers a darker range of cushion foundations geared towards women of color. The cushion foundation can be found on Dibawsette’s website, dibawsette.com, and retails for $30 USD.
