NYFW has kicked off the global fashion week calendar for the year. As usual, there were dozens of shows and events each day to promote and celebrate fashion. Global Glam has attended many of these and below is our highlight list of the week so you can easily find the best and most talked about shows and events of the week.
Dennis Basso 40th Anniversary Show
He is a true NYFW icon – Dennis Basso has been a marquee show at NYFW for 40 years. To celebrate the occasion, the designer showed his special fall collection in the grand ballroom of 583 Park Avenue. The show started with a montage video honoring Dennis Basso and showing the most important parts of his life as a designer throughout the years. His collection was everything you would expect from Dennis Basso: free-flowing, luxurious fabrics like silk, satin and velvet, a somewhat more neutral color palette that symbolizes elegance, materials such as sequins and plenty of fur. The show finished with a uniquely golden dress and a seemingly never-ending train, worn by supermodel Beverly Johnson. When Basso walked out after the finale, the entire ballroom celebrated him with standing ovations. Among the guests were Rosanna Scotto, Countess Luann de Lesseps and Jonathan Cheban.
Rodarte Show
Rodarte brought its fashion show attendees into a fairytale world. The setting featured dining tables with silver candelabras and food covered in silver sparkles. Models wore black eyeliner and lipstick and in signature Rodarte style, the gowns and dresses featured ruffles, ribbons, broad and puffy shoulders and lot of glitter. Bold and edgy best describe the Rodarte show. Anna Wintour was spotted in her iconic sunglasses in the front row. Celebrities such as Lana Condor, Brie Larson, Quinta Brunson, Maddie Ziegler and Rachel Zoe were also in attendance.

Declared “The Most Influential Designer You’ve Never Heard of” as declared by “British Vogue” Malan Breton is one of the more powerful forces of nature in the fashion world. His latest collection is called “Fantôme” and plays off the sensitive themes of conscience, hope, night, day, and human desire. Breton showed a wide variety of designs. From pink faux-fur collared winter coats and black father jackets to cocktail dresses and red carpet gowns. Even select menswear outfits were presented on the runway. Among the notable attendees were Irina Pantaeva, Sean Young, Jerry Mitchell, Jean Shafiroff and Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin.

Plein Sport Pop-Up Event
Philipp Plein is back at NYFW, although not with a fashion show. On the first evening of NYFW, the German designer hosted a pop-up event to celebrate his first Plein Sport store in NYC. As usual, there were hundreds of guests lining up to be part of the event. The store features Plein’s unique and eye-catching displays, graffities and skateboards as seating areas. His sneakers are a centerpiece of the Plein Sport line and were a big part of the evening. Rapper Jadakiss was performing at the event and guests were dancing the night away until late.

Saks NYFW Kickoff Party
NYFW doesn’t officially start until Saks has held their traditional kickoff party. This season’s party brought back plenty of the traditional elements. The iconic champagne tower from which guests can take glasses all night, celebrities everywhere and great music. The only difference this time was the location. Saks didn’t host its event at L’Avenue but instead opted for the Jazz club at Aman hotel. Nicky Hilton Rothschild, Alejandra Alonso Rojas, LaQuan Smith, Alexandra O’Neill, and Jonathan Simkhai were all spotted at the event.
