What a night it was – after being held outdoors last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the MTV VMA awards are back in full swing. This year’s host Doja Cat welcomed thousands of celebrities and music fans at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. After more than a year of not being able to gather for music festivals and award shows, the crowd was ready to rock the night. And it did!! Everyone was on their feet dancing and having a good time.
Lil Nas X won the highly anticipated MTV VMA Video of the Year award for “Montero (Call me By Your Name)”, beating Cardi B, DJ Khaled, Ed Sheeran and The Weeknd. Justin Bieber won the Artist of the Year and Olivia Rodrigo’s “Driver’s License” was awarded Song of the Year – well deserved in our opinion. She was one of the stars of the night, also winning the Best New Artist and Push Performance of the Year awards. Her performance of “good 4 u” was one of the highlights of the night and the crowd in attendance loved it.
Of course, the MTV VMA awards wouldn’t be the same without the talk and gossip about the red-carpet outfits. Jennifer Lopez once again dazzled the crowd in her David Koma outfit with Femme shoes as well as Yeprem and Kavant & Sharart jewelry. Megan Fox was dressed in a see-through Mugler dress and Madison Beer was wearing a stunning Dolce & Gabbana dress with Gianvito Rossi shoes.
However, the scene that everyone was talking about happened before the show on the red carpet. Conor McGregor and Machine Gun Kelly appeared to be in an altercation and had to be physically separated on the carpet. Twitter videos show McGregor throwing a beer glass in the direction of Machine Gun Kelly. It is yet unclear what prompted the argument but we will surely find out soon.
