I felt that the Amalfi Coast has sadly lost some of it’s magic, that is until, I checked into heaven at Villa Tre Ville, a private paradise relais overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea in Positano.
I had very high expectations while planning my bucket-list trip to the Amalfi Coast, which I happily achieved this past summer. My trip encompassed the entire coast which includes Amalfi town, Ravello, Atrani, Positano, Minori, and even extended my trip to Sorrento, Capri, Ischia, and Sicily Islands. While each town has it’s own beauty and charm, I felt that the entire Amalfi coast in general, has lost it’s magic because of the overabundance of tourists, making it impossible to meander the small streets and wander for an adventure. Most shopping and dining options are catered purely for tourists, where english is spoken everywhere, and most dining options are accompanied with english menus and pictures- eek! This is not your untapped holiday.
That is until I checked into heaven at Villa Tre Ville, a private paradise relais overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. I first heard about Villa Tre Ville when a dear friend of mine got married there 4 years ago in which I could not attend. I later saw her wedding published in Vogue Bride Australia. I definitely kept this spot on my radar. As soon as I checked in, my impulse was to share this secret with no one.
Villa Tre Ville, standing for “3 Villas”, is located in Positano. It’s a noble, secretive residence with an impeccable landscape, inimitable views, coupled with old world glamour. The moment I checked in, I was immersed in true luxury: the kind of luxury that old and new money alone cannot buy. There are only 16 rooms that come on a first come-first served basis, which usually book up quite fast months in advance. The management and staff go out of their way to make sure you are uber comfortable.
The entire property is so spacious; it’s quite rare to find another guest while wandering the premises. Terraced gardens include fresh jasmine, cascades of bougainvillea, citrus trees, and grapevine pergolas under which you can sit and relax. The estate’s vegetable gardens and the waters around the Li Galli islands provide the produce that every guest can have the opportunity to savor. There is a private descent to the sea level accessed via elevators cut into rock that reaches each residence: Villa Bianca, Villa Rosa, Villa Azzurra, and Villa Tre Pini. There is also a new section of the estate and relais that was recently built which encompasses the same old charm.
Film maker Franco Zeffirelli lived here from the 1960’s onwards, and through him, Villa Tre Ville became a haven for intellectuals and artistes, including dancers, musicians, artists, actors such as Liz Taylor, Leonard Bernsteinm Laurence Olivier, Maria Callas, Liza Minnelli, Tennessee Williams, Elton John, Carla Fracci and the Kessler Twins are just a few notable guests.
Highlights include
Transfers into Positano Town by their private boat
Dining on the Terrace
The food and the views are the most beautiful in the world. In the evening, you just hear the sea waves and witness the bright moon glistening and brightening up Positano. My menu was not only in both Italian and english, it was a blind menu which did not show prices. (Talk about old-world; women are not shown prices on their menus- love this). Makes you feel kind of uninhibited.
Access to their Private Beach Club
Access to their private beach club, which is right next to Da Adolfo restaurant, a very hard-to-get-a-reservation restaurant. But when you are a guest of Villa Tre Ville, management will help arrange this truly unique dining experience for you. It is here where I dined with Gemma Arterton and even became good friends even after! Queen Rania was also here just two weeks before with 10 of her bodyguards.
Library and Club Lounges
The lounges and bars are to your disposal. You can pour yourself a glass of pinot when you like, or ask the chef to whip you up a snack when you are hungry.
Villa Tre Ville is exclusive, and not for the all inclusive. It’s truly a jewel of the Amalfi Coast, and I will never forget it. Check more of this paradise here.

Officially on my bucket list, absolutely speechless!
Beautiful, sounds amazing.
love the pictures!! I am going!!!
Breathtaking. Loved the Colours. You guys look lovely. Un vrai merveille!!!!
Although I completely agree with all your comments and observations about Villa Tre Ville, I do not agree with you assesment of Positano. Grant it, it does get crowded during high season, but my wife and I, and occasionally some friends, always spend the first 2 weeks of September there. Yes, there are some tourists passing through, but certainly not the boarded one encounters during July and August. Also, you comments about restaurants having Italian/English menus, guess what…never encountered such a thing!
Returning to the Villa, it is a real paradise, where nothing for one’s enjoyment and comfort has been overlooked. We are returning there for the 4th visit this September and are looking forwRd to spending another glorious week in paradise.
