From Katy Perry as host to Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do” music video premiere, there was much excitement for this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. One part of the VMA’s that always causes great anticipation is which the Red Carpet. There were certainly a few bold looks fSheer and see-through seemed the theme on this year’s red carpet. As unique as this trend is, it can certainly be a hit or miss. These gowns can come of as sultry and glamorous or tacky and inappropriate See-through or not, we’ve listed some of the best and worst outfits of the Sunday evening event.
BEST DRESSED
KATY PERRY
VMA 2017 host and ‘Swish Swish” singer Katy Perry looked angelic in this asymmetrical Stephane Rolland gown.
AMBER ROSE
Almost unrecognizable, Amber Rose stunned everyone in this Old-Hollywood ensemble — a curve-hugging Yousef Aljasmi gown, burgundy lip, and brunette wig. Alongside is 21 Savage sporting a contrasting white suit.
CHRISTINA MILIAN
Rocking a Greek-godess inspired look, actress and singer Christina Milian looks phenomenal in this tight bodiced and high slitted Dennis Basso.
YARA SHAHIDI
Looking glamorous in gold, actress Yara Shahidi is draped in an asymmetrical Zimmermann gown.
DEMI LOVATO
Just one night after belting the National Anthem at the incredible Mayweather vs. McGregor fight, Demi rocks a pantsuit version of the sheer trend. With its jogger pant and lacy top, this piece was designed by Zuhair Murad.
JURNEE SMOLLETT-BELL
The “Underground” actress looks elegant and radiant in this knee length shift dress.
HAILEY BALDWIN
Like Demi, Hailey Baldwin dazzles the red carpet in a strategically-placed jeweled jumpsuit by Zuhair Murad.
WORST DRESSED
VANESSA HUDGENS
Although the color is a win, the cut and silhouette of this ankle-length dress is unflattering for Vanessa’s otherwise amazing dancer body.
KESHA
Like sheer material, ruffles can also be a hit or miss, and in this case, it’s certainly a miss. The ruffle over-kill and thick bodice is overbearing for the “Praying” singer.
An outfit more suited for her music videos, not for the Video Music Awards red carpet, the “Swish Swish” and “Rake It Up” featured diva clearly takes a casual approach with her outfit of choice.
